*8th March: Davie Jones and The Manish Boys perform a free gig at the 21st birthday party for producer Shel Talmy's wife held at the Mayfair Hotel in Westminster, London.
THE LOWER THIRD hold their auditions at La Discotheque in Soho, London and Davie Jones along with his alto saxophone gets the position. David also performed with various bands on a casual basis. Some of which included The High Numbers (aka The Who), The T-Bones and Sonny Boy Williamson. The majority took place at The Marquee in Soho, London.
APRIL:
THE LOWER THIRD formed in Margate, Kent in 1963 and were originally known as 'Oliver Twist And The Lower Third'. The original line-up consisted of Denis Taylor (Lead Guitar); Les Mighall (Drums) and Graham Rivens (Bass Guitar).
David joined the band in April 1965 and the new line-up became: Davie Jones (Vocals, Tenor & Alto Saxophone); Denis 'Tea-Cup' Taylor (Lead Guitar); Graham Rivens (Bass Guitar); Les Mighall (Drums) along with Neil Anderson who performed occasional vocals. Two months later Phil Lancaster replaced Les Mighall on drums in July. The band get a residency at The Bournemouth Pavilion every Friday and Sunday throughout the summer, along with the Ventnor Winter Gardens, Isle Of Wight every Saturday.
APRIL:
*24th April: This is the final gig that David played with The Manish Boys in Bletchley.
MAY:
*21st May: The Manish Boys perform at the California Ballroom in Dunstable. Also on the bill were two other acts - Bryan Diamond & The Cutters and Simon St Just. David had left the band the previous month and The Manish Boys either played without him or the shows were cancelled.
JUNE:
*18th June: The Lower Third start a residency at The Cliftonville Hall, Cliftonville, Margate in Kent, playing Rhythm & Blues every Thursday at 8pm.
JULY:
AUGUST:
*20th Aug: Davie Jones & The Lower Third support The Who in Bournemouth.
* An audition for Ralph Horton was arranged at The Rpoebuck Public House on Tottenham Court Road in London with the view of him becoming their manager.
During September, Davie Jones And The Lower Third perform on Saturday afternoons at the Marquee Club in Soho, London.
On September 16th David Jones' official stage name becomes David Bowie.
SEPTEMBER:
*4th Sept: Two gigs were played on this day - At The Blue Moon Club in Cheltenham they were booked as 'Davy Jones and The Lower 3rd' - 110 people came and the band were paid £25.
